Cast In Steele(unedited)

by Suejue

(Another successful raid at PAX. I found the original ending.)

A sterile voice announced over the hospital intercom that visiting hours
were ending.

"Miss Krebs, in light of your injury, will you allow me to drive you home?"
Lloyd Nolan offered.

She smiled while accepting, "If it's not too much trouble?"

Laura and Steele bid them all goodbye. Once they were out of the room,
Remington reached above his head with his left hand to ostensibly adjust the
lights in the room. When his hand returned, it slipped casually around
Laura's shoulder. Laura started to get up from the bed when he pinched the
sleeve of her pajamas and pulled her back, "Ah, ah, ah, the doctor prescribe
rest, remember?"

"Mr. Steele, these beds aren't designed for two people, and I have a feeling
that rest is the farthest thing from your mind."

"Laura!" he exclaimed acting surprised, "Look at us, we are bandaged and
plastered from head to toe. Even though the spirit may be willing, our flesh
is somewhat weak at the moment."

"Even porcupines manage to make love." Laura pointed out, then furrowed her
brow perplexed, "Somehow."

Laura tugged uncomfortably at the neck brace. She loosened the velcro and
peeled it off. Steele questioned, "Should you be doing that?"

"A case of the cure being worse than the disease," she winced as she rubbed
and gingerly moved from side to side. Remington's hand moved up to her neck
to soothingly massage in small circles. Laura knew where this was heading,
"Mr. Steele I don't think....oooooh right there." But it felt too good to
finish her protest. His middle finger strayed under the fabric of her
pajamas and traced the contour of her collarbone. "Is this cure any better?"

"Almost makes it all worth it."

Remington agreed wholeheartedly. He assessed lying in a bed with Laura close
by, touching her in a fairly intimate fashion was definitely a worth a few

Laura brought him out of his reverie, "Mr. Steele, I should apologize about
last night."

"What about last night?"

"I jumped to conclusions about your past."

"Oh that, already forgotten." He scooted closer to her.

"Well that..... and kissing you. I shouldn't have. There's no excuse for it.
I'm sorry."

"That part I haven't forgotten, Miss Holt. If I were to kiss you, then we
could call it even." He advanced until his mouth lightly touched hers. He
slightly parted his lips and painted a feathery pattern with his tongue. As
it evolved into a full blown kiss, they both tried to maneuver into an
embrace, but were hindered in their current bandaged condition. They gave
up, amused by the futility. Remington whispered while they were still close,
"How do those porcupines do it, Miss Holt?"
