grimaced as she packed up her books. Whose bright idea

She flipped through the book of famous
unsolved cases, rolling her eyes. /One decent murder,
that's all I ask! Everybody's gonna be doing Jack the
Ripper./ The usuals were popping up-Ted Bundy, Jeffrey
Dahmer, Charles Manson, Laura Stee-what?!
Hello! Something different! The fact that it was a
woman caught her eye. Kelly quickly scanned over the
abstract. Total soap opera stuff. Husband and
herself partners in a detective firm, considered
pillars of the community, found dead with a lover,
apparent murder-suicide; he killed her, shot himself.
Husband had gone abroad after her death and returned
to become a recluse.
Kelly frowned. Apparently, the press at the time had
seen fit to label Laura Steele a slut and a whore, a
golddigger and a faithless tramp. She looked at
Remington Steele's picture. Ten bucks said if he
hadn't been so pretty-boy movie star good-looking, the
attacks on Laura Steele's character wouldn't have been
quite so vicious.
